On Tuesday 10th August 2010, community groups across the country will be holding candlelight vigils as part of a nationally coordinated action, to highlight the need for mental health reform.
Come along to Main Beach in Byron Bay, from 5pm to 8pm. Please bring a flower to be taken to the water’s edge for those lives lost, a tea-light candle and a jar and a picnic. If you would like to write a letter about your own stories of loss or your views on mental health, please bring it on the night and place it in the cardboard coffin. These letters will be sent to Parliament House before the election.
Get Up, an independent, nonpartisan, grassroots movement, are encouraging community members to get more involved, so if you can support this event by volunteering your time or by sharing your mental health or youth resources, have any other ideas or know anyone who may be willing to get involved, they would love to hear from you.
